Letters to the green dude

by Gordon Rennie

And, so, by sort of popular demand...

Prog 96 - Mark Harrison Unplugged, before the days of Photoshop.

Prog 115 - Kev Hopgood

Prog 119 - Adrian Salmon (Megazine & DWM artist)

Prog 121 - Colin MacNeil, Mega City Prison Guard drawing.

Prog 126 - Shaky Kane, already exhibiting that distinctive art style
that would make him such a big hit with readers later on.

Prog 132 - Kev Hopgood, again.

Prog 139 - Philip Bond, Tharg drawing.

Prog 144 - Adrian Salmon, again.

Prog 156 - Mark Harrison, again. He's keen, that boy.

Prog 207 - Warren Ellis, letter. Apparently he's the President of OAGINT (Organisation Against Giving Insulting Names to Terrans).

TERRALET?
Borag Thungg, Tharg,
We of the O.A.G.I.N.T. (Organisation Against Giving Insulting Names to Terrans) – Thundersley Division, agree wholeheartedly with President Michael Thorn of A.R.N.T. (see Prog 201) about the insulting name ‘earthlett’. You are acting like a grenix and if you continue calling we Terrans this we will send in our local klixfam on the grounds of inter-space libel.
President Warren Ellis, Thundersley £3 Winner.
By all means, Earthlet Ellis. Though I should warn you that when your case was finally heard in 2061 it was thrown out by the Judge and I was awarded sixty million Groats in compensation. Start saving!

Prog 220 - Warren Ellis, reader profile. The 2000AD merchandise
Earthlet Ellis, 13, would most like to have is a Judge Dredd
uniform.

Each Earthlet Featured Here Wins £3!
Profile 3
Earthlet Warren Ellis
Has no difficulty obtaining 2000AD in his area, Benfleet, Essex, despite not having a regular order. Warren is thirteen years old and would like to buy model asembly kits of the 2000AD heroes, as well as joining a Judge Dredd fan club. He also puts a Judge Dredd uniform at the top of his items for sale list, but rates the Tharg mask a lowly sixth place.

Prog 246 - Steve Pugh, Alien Watch drawing.

Prog 257 - Jim Alexander (Megazine writer), letter

MERELY MARVELOUS
Dear most mighty, magnificent, mysterious, macrobiotic, miraculous, magical, magnanimous, majestical, mamoth, mesmerising, mind-boggling, militant, munificent, memorable, marvelous, marshalling, masterful, meditative, merciful, meritorious, monocrat, mega-star Tharg,
I think your mag is great!
Earthlet Jim Alexander, Ardrossan, Ayrshire. £3 Winner.

Prog 282 - Warren Ellis, letter. He's *very* keen, that boy.

THANKS FOR THE WAR
Dear Tharg,
Thank you for "The Apocalypse War" epic. It was carved of stuff of which legends are made. And now, as the people of Mega-City One look to the mammoth task of rebuilding, I wonder whether the ravaged Earth will finally know peace? Thank you for a classic.
Earthlet Warren Ellis, Benfleet, Essex £3 Winner.
The inhabitants of Mega-City One indeed have a massive reconstruction task ahead of them, as evidenced by the state of the city in Judge Dredd stries since "The Apocalypse War". As to whether they are allowed to finish it in peace, only Script Robot Grover and the Mighty Tharg know.

Prog 306 - Jim Campbell (Megazine writer), letter

MISSED IT!
Borag Thungg, Tharg,
Throgloopnarg quae quam quallust stralk! Why didn’t you inform the faithful masses of the zarjaz report on 2000AD on Channel 4? I was told only after the programme had been shown, by a friend (he reads my 2000Ads) and I have been kicking myself (an un-zarjaz state of affairs) all day! I have repeatedly complained about the lack of recognition of 2000AD and now, when an item crops up, I find I have missed it!
Terran Jim Campbell, Bingham, Notts. £3 Winner.

Prog 310 - John McCrea, drawing - 'Judge Toyah'

Prog 494 - Jim Alexander, again

20 DROIDS TAKE COVER!
Tharg,
It won’t be long now until 2000AD reaches its mega 500th issue – that’s 500 reasons why the thrill-sucker is as extinct as the Dodo. I can’t help wondering how the most popular, heroic mag in the universe will commemorate such a momentous occasion… how about a one-off gallery parading the many colourful characters who have graced the 500 issuesof this zarjaz comic? My favourites down the years have been Flesh, Sam Slade, Halo Jones, Slaine, The Meltdown Man, Judge Dredd (of course), Skizz and in particular, Nemesis. Really, the list seems endless. In any case, O emerald one, no matter what Your Mightyfulness decides to do I’m sure it will be an occasion to savour.
From Earthlet Jim Alexander, Ardrossan, Ayrshire. £5 Winner.

Prog 534 - the legendary Danny Cannon Dredd film poster. Wasn't
someone saying here just recently that Cannon was American
and clearly didn't know a thing about Dredd? Proof to the
contrary, surely.

Prog 550 - Simon Fraser, 'Tharg the Yuppie'. Wait a minute...late
1987! Weren't you at art college then, Simon? It's one
thing sending in a Tharg drawing when you're 10 years old,
but it's quite another doing it when you're past voting age...

And that's as much as my patience and back prog collection got. There's also Greg Staples and some bloke called Croft-Perkins, but I seem to have mislaid their shameful details. I'm sure that there's loads more I missed or which appeared in later progs.

And here's an idle thought; wouldn't it be nice if someone with a back issues collection, a scanner and some spare web-space put some of these up somewhere so everyone could join in the fun?
